Truss Roof Loft Conversion, Altrincham
A truss-roof loft converted into a bright, usable room in Altrincham — delivered on budget and to schedule, with the team working through the winter months to keep the project on track.

A home in Altrincham with a modern truss roof — the type with a web of structural timbers crisscrossing the loft space — which many people assume rules out a conversion. It doesn’t; it simply means the structure has to be designed and rebuilt properly so the loft can be opened up and used. The owners wanted a proper extra room without losing any garden or moving house, so we set out the structural approach at the feasibility stage and agreed a clear scope and price before starting. The conversion involved installing the supporting steelwork and new structural timbers to take the place of the original trusses, opening up the loft and forming the new floor, then weathering in the new roof and dormer work. From there it ran through the trades — electrics and plumbing, a new staircase to access the loft, insulation, plastering and the full fit-out. The work was carried out through the winter months, which we planned around carefully to keep the build watertight and on schedule. The project was delivered on budget and to schedule, signed off by Building Control, and the result is a bright, warm, genuinely usable room that adds real space to the home. It’s a good example of a truss roof being no barrier to a quality loft conversion when the structure is done properly.
